This new TJ rear bumper and tire carrier is fabricated from a combination of 6061-T6 aluminum and carbon steel to produce a very strong and light weight product that weighs about 50lbs less than the traditional rear bumper and tire carrier. The total weight of this product is about 78lbs.
The bumper sub-structure and lower frame tie-in plates are fabricated from 3/16 inch carbon steel plate with a 1/4 inch thick receiver tube. The d-ring mounts are 3/4 inch steel plate. This weldment is fully MIG welded.
The bumper body is made from 3/16 inch 6061-T6 aluminum. It is formed with large radius tooling to maintain the integrity of the material. The body is then TIG welded on the inside and the outside.Our tire carrier hinge spindle is machined to accept 1 3/8 inch Timken trailer bearings. The hub is sealed to the elements with a grease seal on the bottom and an o-ringed aluminum cap at the top. The swing-arm is fabricated from 1 3/4 inch x .120 inch wall DOM tube.
The wheel mounting plate and backspacing-adjustment slide are bent from 3/16 inch steel that is fully gusset and welded to the swing-arm. This provides the adjustment necessary for almost any wheel, stock or aftermarket. The wheel plate is pre-cut for both 5×4.5 inch and 5×5 inch lug patterns. Studs will be installed at the stock YJ and TJ 5×4.5 inch pattern. The tire carrier will hold up to 37 inch tall tires.
A feature that is unique to the UCF tire carrier is the latching method. The swing-arm is permanently attached to the tailgate bracket with an adjustable linkage that allows them to open together. Opening the tailgate is now a very easy one-handed operation. The tailgate bracket has a tab on the top that can be used to mount a CB antenna.
